On October 16, 2014, Health Canada approved the use of EcoShield™ as a processing aid for red meat in Canada, in all jurisdictions recognized by Health Canada for the purposes of the iLONO policy. The Agency issued an Interim Letter of No Objection (iLONO) for the use of EcoShield™ as an antimicrobial treatment for control of Escherichia coli O157:H7 strains on red meat parts and trim prior to grinding.

EcoShield™ is an antimicrobial preparation for controlling the foodborne bacterial pathogen E. coli O157:H7. It has been developed and is manufactured by Intralytix, Inc., for treating foods that are at high risk for E. coli O157:H7 contamination. In the United States, EcoShield™ is FDA-cleared, through a "Food Contact Notification" or FCN, for use on red meat parts and trim intended to be ground (FCN No. 1018). EcoShield™ is also included in FSIS Directive 7120.1 as safe and suitable antimicrobial for use in the production of red meat parts and trim prior to grinding, as a processing aid. EcoShield™ is an all-natural product. It is Star K-certified Kosher and IFANCA-certified Halal product.
