Columbia, MD - June 1, 2026 - Intralytix, Inc. announced today that it has received a multimillion-dollar Research Program Project (P01) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in response to the RFA-AI-24-069 call for proposals (grant # P01AI195376). The project conducted through the Centers for Accelerating Phage Therapy to Combat ESKAPE Pathogens (CAPT-CEP) is led by Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Daria Van Tyne of the University of Pittsburgh, and co-PI Dr. Alexander "Sandro" Sulakvelidze, President and CEO of Intralytix.

The overall objective of this project is to develop phage therapy as a novel approach to combat multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections,

which are increasingly difficult to treat with conventional antibiotics. The joint initiative brings together collaborators from Intralytix, the University of Pittsburgh, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the University of Southern California and Florida International University. The project aims to accelerate the development, optimization, and translational potential of phage-based therapeutics to address urgent public health challenges posed by antibiotic-resistant pathogens.

This NIH grant represents an important milestone in advancing phage therapy as a viable medical countermeasure against multidrug-resistant infections,” said Dr. Alexander “Sandro” Sulakvelidze, President and CEO of Intralytix and Program co-PI for this P01 project. “By collaborating with a team of outstanding investigators in the phage field - both in academia and the U.S. military - and leveraging Intralytix’s expertise in bacteriophage technology - we aim to deliver new, precision-based treatments to patients suffering from Pseudomonas infections that are otherwise very difficult to manage. This funding enables us to continue our mission of developing safe, effective, and targeted alternatives to traditional antibiotics.

The P-CAPT program will support multiple interrelated projects and shared core facilities designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and translation from basic phage research to therapeutic development. Drawing on 27 years of proven leadership and success, Intralytix will deliver end-to-end expertise in phage discovery, manufacturing, regulatory navigation, and clinical translation.
